Vanessa Bravo, an assistant professor in Elon University’s School of Communications, contributed a chapter to the book “International Public Relations and Public Diplomacy: Communication and Engagement.”
The chapter, “The importance of diaspora communities as key publics for national governments around the world,” occupies pages 279 to 298 of the book, which became available this year. Professors Guy Golan and Dennis F. Kinsey of Syracuse University, and Sung-Un Yang of Indiana University edited the volume.
In summary, the book discusses the interconnections between international public relations and public diplomacy, covering topics such as global relationship-building and stakeholder engagement. The book’s sections are titled: “Foundations,” “The functions of international public relations and public diplomacy,” “Nation brands and country reputation,” “Engaging domestic and foreign publics,” and “Global issues and challenges.”
In total, the book has 24 chapters written by scholars from institutions such as Colorado State University, Emory College, Northwestern University, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, University of Alabama, University of Florida, University of Maryland, University of Southern California, and University of Texas at Austin, among others.
“I felt very honored to have my chapter accepted in this book, especially because most of the authors are full or associate professors with very productive research careers,” Bravo said. “It was a great opportunity for me to contribute to this edited volume.”
Bravo has worked at Elon since 2011, and she has published research in journals such as Public Relations Review, The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, International Journal of Communication, Global Media Journal, Revista Internacional de Relaciones Públicas, and Palabra Clave. Additionally, she authored a chapter in a book titled “Communication and Community,” published by Hampton Press.
