Connie Ledoux Book, Elon University’s associate provost for academic affairs, an accomplished professor of communications and a member of the university's senior staff, has accepted the position of provost and dean at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. She begins her work as The Citadel’s second-ranking official this summer.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Connie Book as our new provost and dean of The Citadel,” said Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa. “She not only has the leadership and academic experience we sought, but she clearly embraces our mission. She is the perfect fit during this exciting time at The Citadel.”

Book joined the Elon faculty in 1999 and has held numerous key leadership positions including chair of the Department of Communications and associate dean of the School of Communications. She was appointed as faculty fellow and assistant to the president for strategic planning from 2008-2010 and was named associate provost in 2010.

Currently as associate provost for academic affairs, Book provides strategic guidance for the Elon Core Curriculum, the Elon Experiences and student engagement, academic advising, student professional development, staff leadership and professional development, academic and residential facilities, athletic academic advising and domestic study programs. Other key campus initiatives during her tenure include implementation of the university's residential campus plan, enrichments to our digital learning opportunities, and growth of our civic engagement initiatives.

"Connie is an exceptional educator and mentor whose dedication to Elon will be greatly missed," Elon Provost Steven House said in announcing Book's Citadel appointment. "She has been a tireless advocate for the power of engaged learning and someone whose counsel has been vital to the ongoing success of our student programs. Connie has earned the respect of her colleagues as an intelligent and creative administrator who understands the complex dimensions of managing the operations of a university. She keeps the best interests of students at the center of every decision while striving constantly for institutional improvement.

"I am deeply appreciative for the leadership that Connie has provided for Elon University. On a personal note, I consider myself fortunate to count Connie not only a colleague, but more importantly, a very good friend. While I am sorry Elon will lose Connie’s services as a university leader, we can be pleased and proud that she will be able to use her many, many skills as a provost and dean at The Citadel."
