Elon students revive Society of Professional Journalists chapter
School of Communications students have revived Elon
University's chapter of the Society of Professional journalists. The organization
has had two meetings and has elected officers. It is actively recruiting new
members.
The next meeting will take place at 5 p.m. April 3 at the offices of The Pendulum on the second floor of Moseley.
Newly elected officers of the group are Jennifer Hildebrand and Jessica Vitak,
co-presidents; Lindsay Porter, vice president; Elizabeth Sudduth,
secretary-treasurer; Jennifer Guarino, SGA liaison; Lauren Vilis, membership coordinator;
and Annette Randall, program chairperson.
The national organization was known as Sigma Delta Chi when it was started in
1909. Its members are dedicated to the idea that our free press is a cornerstone
of our nation and our liberty. The Elon group expects to sponsor two to four
special events a year, and plans to host guest speakers and offer journalism
workshops open to the Elon University community.
Members pay a $35 fee. In return they receive 10 issues of Quill, the SPJ
magazine about journalists and journalism, and access to useful job banks and
internship information offered through the SPJ Web site. To read more information
about the national organization, go to http://www.spj.org.
