Alumnus Haniewich speaks at Phi Kappa Phi Initiation

Jeffery Haniewich, a 1998 School of Communications graduate, was the guest speaker at Elon's recent Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society initiation ceremony.

Haniewich is the weekend meteorologist for Storm Team 9 at WNCT, the NBC affiliate in Greenville, S.C. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and Raleigh, N.C., and says Hurricane Hugo initially piqued his interest in weather. He earned a degree in Atmosphere Sciences from UNC-Asheville in 2001.

As part of his job, this Weather Channel fan speaks to elementary school students about the weather. He said his experiences at Elon provided a blueprint for success and all the opportunities he needed to do well in the field of broadcast news.
