The
School of Communications will continue to feature free issues of
the New York Times, USA Today, the Greensboro News & Record
and the Burlington Times-News in the front lobby on weekdays.
The program
is designed to encourage the habit of daily newspaper reading among
young people. Those who pick up the papers are encouraged to share
them with friends and colleagues. Used papers can be recycled by
depositing them in a marked bin located near the newsracks; USA
Today takes care of the recycling of the papers.
The Collegiate
Readership Program is now operating at more than 180 schools including
George Washington University, Miami University, Penn State and the
Ohio State University.
USA Today anticipates
that 16.5 million newspapers are read annually by university students
as a result of the program.
The papers had been offered on a trial basis during September. Because
this test was an overwhelming success, the program will be continued
through the winter term and spring semester.
