School
of Communications faculty members Byung Lee and George Padgett traveled
to the University of Durham in the United Kingdom to present "An
Attitudinal Study of the Why and How of Newsroom Diversity"
at the annual International Society for the Scientific Study of
Subjectivity Q-Method conference Sept. 19-22.
"The study
looks at attitudes about diversity in the newsroom and in news content
- why it's important and how to go about achieving it," said
Padgett.
"We began with the intention of surveying both academic and
professional populations, but met with considerable technical
difficulty getting the bugs out of the online sort ... in the end
we decided to use a student population and consider it a phase-one
study. We'll survey outside later and publish the results."
