Pulitzer Prize-winning
cartoonist Doug Marlette presented a lecture titled "The Art of
Religious Satire" Feb. 18 in Whitley Auditorium.
Marlette is
an editorial cartoonist who also draws the syndicated daily comic
strip "Kudzu." He wrote a musical based on the strip that starred
the Red Clay Ramblers and premiered in Ford's Theater in Washington,
D.C.
Marlette, who
lives in Hillsborough, N.C., is also a novelist. He published the
critically acclaimed book "The Bridge" in 2001.
His appearance
was sponsored by the School of Communications and Elon's Project
Pericles, a melding of campus and community for the common good.
The Pericles funding was secured by Dr. Anthony Hatcher, who planned
Marlette's visit in conjunction with his spring semester course
Religion and Media.
