Pulitzer winner Marlette visits Elon

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette presented a lecture titled "The Art of Religious Satire" Feb. 18 in Whitley Auditorium.

Marlette is an editorial cartoonist who also draws the syndicated daily comic strip "Kudzu." He wrote a musical based on the strip that starred the Red Clay Ramblers and premiered in Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.

Marlette, who lives in Hillsborough, N.C., is also a novelist. He published the critically acclaimed book "The Bridge" in 2001.

His appearance was sponsored by the School of Communications and Elon's Project Pericles, a melding of campus and community for the common good. The Pericles funding was secured by Dr. Anthony Hatcher, who planned Marlette's visit in conjunction with his spring semester course Religion and Media.
