Katie Cutler,
a School of Communications senior, completed a Senior Seminar project
that could have an impact in area schools.
Cutler surveyed
all the students at the Burlington area's Eastern Alamance High
School about their smoking habits and the effects of anti-smoking
ads they see on TV. She will present her findings to the administrators
of the Alamance-Burlington School System. They hope to use the study
to find more ways to help deter teen smoking.
"Doing a survey
of 900-plus students, collating the information, writing it up and
presenting it is a pretty massive task, but Katie did it well,"
said her mentor Dr. David Copeland. "This is a good story for all
of us. I hope other students will follow her good example. Their
research can have a local impact."
