A
made-for-television film featuring a screenplay written by School
of Communications alum Jennifer Smith ('95) premiered during prime-time
on Mother's Day on the Hallmark Channel.
"Audrey's Rain"
stars Jean Smart (an actress who has appeared in the TV series "Designing
Women" and "Frasier," and many movies) as a woman who puts her life
on hold to raise her deceased sister's children. In the midst of
these demands, a long-lost love (real-life husband/actor Richard
Gilliland) comes into her life again.
Smith, who
is currently employed as a sales associate at the ABC Radio Network
in the Los Angeles area, wrote the film with her sister, Kate, a
waitress in Albuquerque, N.M. Smith had set a goal for herself to
sell a script before she reached the age of 30 - she made her goal
seven months before her June 7, 2003, deadline.
The film script
was purchased in November, and the movie went into production in
January. It's part of the Hallmark Channel's push to complete 24
movies in 24 months, she explained. The sisters have been collaborating
on several more scripts they hope to see successfully sold and produced.
