Elon student headed to SPJ
conference as select reporter

Journalism major Erin Cunningham has been awarded a Society of Professional Journalists Working Press Internship to attend the National SPJ Convention in Tampa, Fla., Sept. 11-14.

She will be working with six other student reporters from Penn State, Texas Christian, the University of Missouri, Ohio State, the University of Kentucky and Ithaca College to produce a daily paper covering the events of the 2003 SPJ convention.

The internship program will pay for her accommodations and conference fees. Cunningham will work with professionals from the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Tampa Tribune and the Orlando Sentinel.

The Society of Professional Journalists works to improve and protect journalism. SPJ is dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.

Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, and based in Indianapolis, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed public, works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists, and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.

Elon University's SPJ chapter is quite active and always seeking new members. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact its president, Lindsay Porter, lporter@elon.edu.
