Journalism
major Erin Cunningham has been awarded a Society of Professional
Journalists Working Press Internship to attend the National SPJ
Convention in Tampa, Fla., Sept. 11-14.
She will be
working with six other student reporters from Penn State, Texas
Christian, the University of Missouri, Ohio State, the University
of Kentucky and Ithaca College to produce a daily paper covering
the events of the 2003 SPJ convention.
The internship
program will pay for her accommodations and conference fees. Cunningham
will work with professionals from the Washington Post, the Los Angeles
Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Tampa Tribune and the
Orlando Sentinel.
The Society
of Professional Journalists works to improve and protect journalism.
SPJ is dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism
and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
Founded in
1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, and based in Indianapolis, SPJ promotes
the free flow of information vital to a well-informed public, works
to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists, and protects
First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
