Elon Student
Television's "Phoenix14News" and two Elon Television productions
have been recognized with four 2004 Videographer Awards of Distinction.
This
honor is reserved for only those broadcast productions that clearly
exceed industry standards.
"Phoenix14News"
took home awards for its 2004 graphics and animation package, designed
by P.J. Buckley and Scott Myrick, and a March 15, 2004, newscast
that included coverage of the Elon Board of Trustees' decision to
move forward with the school of law initiative.
Elon's student-produced
television news program has been honored five times this year, including
recogniations at the recent Broadcast Education Association conference.
Elon Television
was also honored with two awards. The first was for the documentary,
"The Shining Lights of Opuwo," produced by Elon sociology
Professor Tom Arcaro and Elon Television video producer J. McMerty
through Project Pericles. A community involvement project, Pericles
is funding an initiative by Elon students under Arcaro's direction
to illuminate the issue of AIDS in Namibia. The documentary includes
footage from the African nation.
The second
ETV award was for Elon's university football recap program "Touchdown
Phoenix Football." The weekly show airs on Elon Television
and Comcast Sports South weekly in the fall.
