Positions open in film
and photojournalism

The School of Communications invites applications prior to December for two new faculty positions with an August 2005 start date.

Position #1: Teach in the Core + Photojournalism. We seek a person who makes communications as a discipline, and photojournalism as a specialty, come alive for students. Professional experience as a photojournalist required. Teach primarily in the core (introduction to communications, media writing and/or digital media production), with one course a semester in photojournalism.

Position #2: Filmmaking. We seek a person who will help lead a growing cinema program. Professional experience in filmmaking required. Teach courses such as film production, screenwriting, directing and film history.

Elon is a dynamic private university renowned for its small classes, engaged students, advanced technology, international focus and one of the nation's most beautiful campuses.

Elon is located near Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham and Greensboro. The School of Communications - home to 20 percent of Elon's 4,800 students - has 30 full-time faculty members in journalism, broadcast and new media, cinema and corporate communications.

Because of growth, we have added a dozen new faculty positions in the past three years. Teaching is our first priority at Elon, with equal secondary importance given to service and scholarship or creative activity. The School's faculty is highly collegial and enthusiastic, and the School operates with state-of-the-art technology in a modern new building.

Faculty members typically teach two courses one semester and three the other, with one course (or study abroad) in a special January term. At Elon, faculty members regularly teach in the General Studies program.

A candidate with an MFA or PhD is eligible for tenure-track; a candidate with a master's degree is eligible for lecturer-track.

Candidates for each position should send a letter of application, vita, and list of three references to Dr. Anthony Hatcher, Search Committee Chair, School of Communications, Campus Box 2850, Elon University, Elon, NC 27244.

To enrich education through diversity, Elon particularly encourages minority candidates to apply. Review of applications begins Dec. 1.
