The School
of Communications invites applications prior to December for two
new faculty positions with an August 2005 start date.
Position #1: Teach in the Core + Photojournalism. We seek
a person who makes communications as a discipline, and photojournalism
as a specialty, come alive for students. Professional experience
as a photojournalist required. Teach primarily in the core (introduction
to communications, media writing and/or digital media production),
with one course a semester in photojournalism.
Position
#2: Filmmaking. We seek a person who will help lead a growing
cinema program. Professional experience in filmmaking required.
Teach courses such as film production, screenwriting, directing
and film history.
Elon is a dynamic
private university renowned for its small classes, engaged students,
advanced technology, international focus and one of the nation's
most beautiful campuses.
Elon is located
near Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham and Greensboro. The School of
Communications - home to 20 percent of Elon's 4,800 students - has
30 full-time faculty members in journalism, broadcast and new media,
cinema and corporate communications.
Because of
growth, we have added a dozen new faculty positions in the past
three years. Teaching is our first priority at Elon, with equal
secondary importance given to service and scholarship or creative
activity. The School's faculty is highly collegial and enthusiastic,
and the School operates with state-of-the-art technology in a modern
new building.
Faculty members
typically teach two courses one semester and three the other, with
one course (or study abroad) in a special January term. At
Elon, faculty members regularly teach in the General Studies program.
A candidate
with an MFA or PhD is eligible for tenure-track; a candidate with
a master's degree is eligible for lecturer-track.
