Brittain
Cheek, a 2001 Elon graduate in corporate communications, has joined
the School of Communications as director of student support and
alumni outreach.
Cheek will
manage student records and advising files in addition to handling
alumni relations for the School of Communications. Her office is
located in the former "green room" across the hall from the internship
director's office.
"This
new position is important in meeting national accreditation expectations,
and our own expectations, related to student support and alumni
outreach," said Dean Paul Parsons. "Brittain will monitor
each student's curriculum for graduation and accreditation compliance,
identify and assist top students in applying for awards and scholarships,
be the staff liaison for communications students in living/learning
communities on campus, monitor minority student recruitment and
retention, systematically inform students of school activities and
policies, conduct a census of our 2,000 journalism and communications
alumni, and organize an annual Homecoming event for our alumni."
Cheek has
worked the past eight years in the human resources division of Cessna
Aircraft Co. in Greensboro. She earned a management certificate
at Duke in 2002, and currently is in an online master's degree program
through Western Carolina University.
