Ward-Johnson is fellow
at summer API seminar

School of Communications faculty member Frances Ward-Johnson was selected as a Journalism Educators Fellow by the American Press Institute and attended the annual Journalism Educator's seminar June 6-10.

Funded by an endowment from the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust, the week-long seminar exposed 22 educators from selected colleges and universities to the latest trends in the newspaper industry, from the challenges of electronic media and convergence to issues in writing and editing.

Attendees also discussed other critical topics, including strategies for helping students market themselves to prospective employers.

Discussion leaders for this year's seminar included Doug Feaver, vice president, Washingtonpost, Newsweek Interactive, Arlington, Va.; Joseph Grimm, recruiting and development editor, Detroit Free Press; and Richard Weiss, writing coach, St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Participants also visited the Freedom Forum Foundation's First Amendment Center in Arlington, Va.
