Pulitzer
Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette, who visited Elon University
in 2003, returns to campus for a lecture at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 in Whitley
Auditorium.
Marlette will
discuss his experience of adapting books for film. The movie rights
for his first novel, "The Bridge," were recently purchased
by Paramount, and he co-wrote the screenplay "Ex" with
author Pat Conroy.
Marlette's
editorial cartoons and comic strip "Kudzu" are syndicated
in hundreds of newspapers. The North Carolina native has won every
major award for editorial cartooning, including the 1988 Pulitzer
Prize.
His work has
appeared in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times and The Washington
Post, along with various other newspapers around the country.
"The Bridge"
has been selected as a special county-wide reading for everyone
in the Burlington-Elon area, and Marlette's book has been flying
off the shelves. The lecture is free and open to the public, and
his appearance is sponsored by Elon University and Alamance Reads,
a program of the Friends of the Library.
