Elon
University and other members of the North Carolina Open Government
Coalition are partners in an effort to ensure public access to government
records and actions. The group has now launched a Web site to further
its mission.
The coalition's membership
also includes representatives from newspapers, broadcast outlets
and a range of organizations including the North Carolina Library
Association, the office of Lt. Gov. Bev Perdue and the North Carolina
League of Women Voters.
The Open Government
site offers links to news stories and expert advice on the topic,
and information about Web sites that aid in searches of public records.
It also features sample request letters and other reference material
designed for use by journalists and others who seek access to government
information.
