5/15/2008Elon University senior Jimmy Lytle fired a two-over-par 74 in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division I West Regional Men’s Golf Championship Thursday at the Gold Mountain Golf Club, claiming a share of 31st place in the 141-player field. The first Phoenix golfer to compete in an NCAA regional since Elon officially joined the Division I level nine years ago, Lytle is one of six individuals to join the 27 teams participating at the regional event hosted by University of Washington.

Basnight Outstanding Athlete Award honors to top all accolades bestowed at the 34th Annual Elon University Athletics Awards Banquet Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium. The Stein H. Basnight Outstanding Athlete Award has been presented annually since 1958 in memory of the late Stein H. Basnight of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Story Phoenix Rallies in Ninth to Defeat Wake Forest5/13/2008Donny Jobe doubled home the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the Elon Phoenix belted five homers to earn a 16-15 non-conference baseball victory over the visiting Demon Deacons of Wake Forest from Latham Park on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Elon swept the two-game season series from Wake Forest and improved to 39-16. The Demon Deacons dropped to 22-28 on the year.
Story Elon Baseball Signs Two5/12/2008Elon University head baseball coach Mike Kennedy announced the signings of Justin Hilt (Louisburg, N.C./Louisburg College/West Deptford (N.J.) HS) and Zeth Stone (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor School) to National Letters of Intent to play for the Phoenix beginning with the 2009 campaign. This brings the number of signees to the Elon program to five as three players were inked in the early signing period.
