Leonard Announces Spring Men’s Tennis Schedule

Elon head men’s tennis coach Michael Leonard has announced the 2009 Phoenix spring men’s tennis schedule, which begins on Jan. 16 when his team takes on Duke, North Carolina and East Tennessee State at the three-day Duke Invitational and concludes when Elon hosts the 2009 Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships on April 23-26 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the Elon University campus.

Phoenix Second in Commissioner’s Cup Race

On the strength of top-three finishes in both men’s soccer and football, Elon University concluded the fall sports season in a program-high second place among the 12 institutions competing in fall men’s athletics in the race for the Southern Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The Phoenix ranks eighth in the Germann Cup standings, recognizing the women’s athletics programs. Elon forged a perfect record in Southern Conference action for the first time ever to claim its first SoCon men’s soccer title.

Elon Hosts College of Charleston in SoCon Opener

The Elon Phoenix men’s basketball team will play host to the College of Charleston Cougars in the Southern Conference opener for both squads on Thursday night at 7 p.m. from the "Nest." Elon enters with a 1-3 record following a nine-point defeat at Virginia Tech the night before Thanksgiving. CofC visits with a 5-1 overall mark and has won four straight, including an 82-80 overtime win over South Carolina on Friday night.

Phoenix Set to Open Season at Liberty

Third-year coach Mark Elliston’s women’s track and field team opens its indoor season this week when Elon University competes at Liberty University’s Tolsma Indoor Track Center Thursday evening in the Liberty Kickoff Invitational. The Phoenix will spring into action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday as Veronica Day, Lauren Hawkesworth and Monique Vines participate in the triple jump while Jordan Lee does battle in the pole vault.
