Women's Resource Center Publicity

Photo of Emma Jones working on a brochure at the Women's Resource Center Between July 18-29, 2005, Emma Jones worked with the Women's Resource Center of Alamance County. The mission of this non-profit organization is to help women and their families improve and enrich their lives by providing resources to achieve personal and professional goals through education, networking opportunities, support services and information regarding community services.

The WRC offers encouragement and support to women and their families in times of transition, including job loss, financial downturn, family breakup, health issues and other life changes. The Center offers counseling through the statewide New Choices program, which offers guidance and support to displaced homemakers and their families such as self-sufficiency plans that include budgeting and credit counseling; housing, transportation, education and legal issues assessments; job search and career strategies; and individual physical and mental health issues assistance.

Other programs include fundraising events such as the Fall Plant Sale and the Spring Herb Festival. Programs like Working Women's Wednesdays, an exciting monthly luncheon series designed by the Women's Resource Center and Women Into Networking (WIN), offers professional strategies to meet the needs of working women. WWW brings women together to hear outstanding speakers addressing today's issues and providing new insights for managing both professional and personal lives.

Jones' primary work over the two-week sabbatical was to help the Center develop publicity materials. The two main publications she worked on include their first ever Annual Report to celebrate the Center's 10-year anniversary (see pdf of this report), as well as the 2005-2006 Working Women's Wednesdays Brochure (see pdf of this brochure). Other publications include Membership and Client brochures. Jones has also assisted with finalizing the quarterly newsletter.

"I have been so privileged to work with the wonderful staff of the Center during these two weeks," says Jones. "They are so dedicated to the mission of the Center. I hope that the work I've done for them will help them promote their much-needed services and programs to clients, members and donors in the community."
