Brief Biography

Dr. Calhoun has varied teaching and professional interests that include immunology, motor learning theory, development of quality human relationships and motivation in the realm of personal health and wellness.  He has been teaching personal health and wellness related courses for more than three decades and is currently writing a book that examines dysfunctional attitudes and high risk behaviors of males.

Education

Ed.D. received August, 1984, from Brigham Young University with dual emphasis in Health Education and Analysis of Human Movement.

M.S. received August, 1979, from Brigham Young University in Physical Education and supporting area in Health Education.

B.S. received May, 1977, from Hardin-Simmons University with majors in Physical Education, Health, and Guidance and Counseling.

Past professional certifications include American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, C.P.R. Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, P.A.D.I. Scuba Instructor, Divemaster and Rescue Diver.

Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Leisure at Elon College, 1990 to 1996. 

Received Tenure, 1991. 

Assistant Professor at Elon College, 1985 to 1990. 

Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education at Kennesaw College, Marietta, Georgia, 1979 to 1985.

Graduate Teaching Assistant at Brigham Young University, 1977-1979.  Instructed a variety of Physical Education Activity Courses while completing M.S. Degree.

Therapy Technician (Adaptive Physical Education Instructor) with the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation at Abilene State School, 1973-1977.  Teaching responsibilities included movement education, behavior modification, gymnastics, track, aquatics, and adaptive activities.
