Brief Biography

I am originally from Massachusetts; attending K-12 and undergraduate university in that state.  After that … well, I have lived in Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Japan, back to Texas, north to South Dakota, and then south to North Carolina.  Academic year 2013-2014 is my 15th year at Elon.

I facilitate a variety of courses.  However, I teach students.  Interacting with my students is very profound – and seeing the spark of understanding, whether it be mastering a theory or a dance step, makes what I do meaningful.  It is no surprise that I am a teacher, especially a teacher in the discipline of physical education.  My mom was a kindergarten teacher, my sister an elementary physical education teacher (my brother-in-law taught at the university level, in physical education).  My brother majored in physical education (although he now teaches woodworking at the high school level) and my sister-in-law is a school librarian.  My husband has degrees in physical education, but is a woodworker.  My dad was a carpenter (and a firefighter).  Can you see the recurring themes in our family?

My husband and I have traveled quite a bit. While teaching in Japan we spent time visiting South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.  Since returning to the states we have also traveled to China, Russia, Australia, and England.  I have also spent time in Ireland, Canada, Mexico, and most recently led a study abroad to New Zealand.  While I have discovered I like to travel, I like coming home the best.
