My philosophy of teaching embraces learner-centered pedagogy, guided inquiry, and metacognitive reflection. Through teaching I make these abstractions real for my students. I endeavor to model the kind of pedagogy I know is important in the teaching-learning process, and I hope that I have influence on the quality of teachers my students become.
When former students become teacher mentors, return to Elon for graduate work, or join the faculty as colleagues, fellow researchers, and co-presenters at national and international professional meetings, I humbly sense the rewards of twenty years of teaching in the School of Education. From the classrooms of Mooney, throughout campus and within schools, and across the global community, I feel personal and professional fulfillment in a legacy realized.
