Brief Biography

John Alexander, who served ten years as president of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in Greensboro before his retirement in March 2007, served as the Isabella Cannon Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership at Elon University during the 2008-2009 academic year, working primarily with Elon University School of Law to develop a comprehensive leadership component for the school’s curriculum. He has moderated the Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series with influential state, national and international leaders including former presidential advisor David Gergen, former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt and Bonnie McElveen Hunter, chair of the American Red Cross.

Alexander led a period of unprecedented growth at CCL during his tenure as president from 1997 to 2007. CCL increased its annual operating revenues by more than 55 percent to $79 million in 2006. The center also significantly expanded its operations in Europe and Asia, where it opened a campus in Singapore in 2003. CCL also expanded its customized programs and strengthened its focus on organizational leadership development.
