Laura Zavelson is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. She holds an MBA from the University of Florida with concentrations in entrepreneurship and marketing. She was awarded a Matherly Scholarship for leadership and scholarship. She also holds an AB from Duke University where she majored in Public Policy and minored in Documentary Studies.
Professor Zavelson has a special interest in attracting more young women to the field of entrepreneurship and works to reach out across the university to show them how entrepreneurial skills can be valuable regardless of career choice. She is also interested in developing transformative learning experiences and using technology in the classroom.
She is a serial entrepreneur and previously founded and was CEO of ViASIC, a venture backed software start-up that was sold to Triad Semiconductor. She then founded and led Calliope Workshop, a boutique firm specializing in branding and custom content. She is currently Principal at ZConsulting, focusing on digital content strategy for start-ups and business groups launching or rebranding products.
Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Professor Zavelson was Senior Manager Business Development at Guidant Corportion in Santa Clara, CA where she was responsible for technology assessment, strategic investments, licensing and acquisition in the area of minimally invasive cardiovascular and endovascular technologies. Prior to that she held a similar position a Cordis: A Johnson & Johson company.
Before getting her MBA, she worked in the creative department at BBDO Worldwide in New York and in the PR department of the Independent Petroleum Association in Washington, D.C.
