Brief Biography

Dr. Mussa Idris is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Elon University.

Regarding his teaching experience, for more than ten years Dr. Idris has taught undergraduate classes in Anthropology, Sociology, and African Studies, at the University of Florida (in the Department of Anthropology and at the Center for African Studies), at Elon University (in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology), and at the University of Asmara (in the Department of Sociology and Social Work), where he was also the Chair of the Department from 2003 to 2005..

Professionally, he worked as a consultant for various NGOs in Eritrea on topics such as social entrepreneurship, health, and education.

Dr. Idris received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in the fall of 2013. His dissertation title was Entrepreneurship among the Ethiopian and Eritrean Migrants: Ethnographic Case Studies in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area. Previously, he completed his Master of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Florida in 2002, through a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) scholarship fund. In 1999, he earned his blended Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Asmara, Eritrea.
