Personal Information

Mary Knight McKenna

I am a woman on a mission. At Elon University I strive to have all of our teacher candidates engage in teaching as an intellectual activity, develop deep content knowledge, use research-based teaching and learning strategies, foster meaningful relationships with their students and their students’ families, communicate excitement about learning, grapple with complexities, envision new possibilities, collaborate with others in service of schools and communities, promote social justice, advocate for children and their families, maintain an openness to transformation, work in ways consistent with their values, and express wonder and curiosity about the world.

This is how I experience my own work as a teacher educator, and I know I am making progress with my mission when I see evidence of these things in our teacher candidates.
