Brief Biography

bio photo

My name is Michael. During the day I help Elon faculty, staff, and students find new ways to use technology to enhance their teaching and learning. I've also collaborated with SMEs, faculty and instructional designers to design and develop fully online courses, presented for high school and college audiences on social media and educational technology, and have a background in faculty training for elearning technologies.

Presenting is a passion of mine. I love using comedy to talk about social media and how it affects our lives, our learning, and our future. I've done this in front of nearly 40,000 people since 2010. My most popular session is called Online Living & Learning. OL&L is a comedic presentation targeted at high school and college students that challenges them to think about how social media affects their lifestyles. You can view the introduction to OL&L here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnjZbgyvoIY

I was also kind of a big deal on a fairly irrelvant social media website (that falsely inflated my ego). I ran a Tumblr blog about educational technology, social media, and things I find interesting (interspersed with personal opinions and stories about the love of my life). It had over 65,000 followers, 300,000+ annual pageviews, and was named one of The 90 Best Tumblr Blogs of 2011 by BuzzFeed.com and EdWorld's Top 25 Educator Blogs of 2013 before I ultimately retired it.

I can be reached via email, phone, campus mail and drop-in. Owl service is currently unavailable. (A Harry Potter study room in Lindner but still no owl service? For shame, Elon.)
