Brief Biography

Moved from California to North Carolina late 1996 to become the founding leader for the physical therapy education program at Elon University.  In 1990, was founding chair for a physical therapy educational program at Western University of Health Sciences.  Held all faculty and departmental roles at Loma Linda University previous to 1990.  Clinical backgound in acute care at Hinsdale Hospital in Illinois; and then a clinician at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. 


Enjoy the challenge of creating a dynamic educational environment for physical therapy students to learn in and become productive health care team members. 


B.S. in physical therapy from Loma Linda University, CA

M.Ed. in health education from Boston University, MA

Ed.D. in health sciences and administration from University of Houston, TX

Research interests include:  admissions requirements for success in physical therapy, curriculum evaluation and innovation, accreditation, and long time interest in HIV/AIDS

Current Projects

Providing leadership to the Department of Physical Therapy Education Vision as the program 'recreates itself'.  Goals of the vision include new and expanded space (going from 17,000 to 31,000 square feet of dedicated space), modest increase in class size from 36 to 44 members per class, scholarship money for DPT students, an additional faculty member to maintain the low student-faculty ratio, budget to support research equipment purchase or replacement of out-dated equipment, financial support for a global experience for faculty, staff and students in the DPT program, money to create a new clinical education model, administrative approval to develop a small post-professional doctoral program to educate physical therapists to be educators in institutions similar to Elon University, and long term goal of development of a Center for Continuing Competence for health care professionals from varous disciplines. 


Also, a part of the Sub-committee of the Departmental faculty examining the current DPT curriculum. 

Grants Awarded

$600,000 grant from Duke Endowment and Alamance Regional Medical Center to establish the physical therapy program at Elon University.

Professional Activities

Active with American Physical Therapy Association including the Section on Education

Active member of the NC Physical Therapy Association; the Triad District

Service Activities

Service as a physical therapist in Zambia, Puerto Rico, Hawaii.  Also, on founding Board of Directors for Inland AIDS Project in CA; and Inland Temporary Homes in CA (a home for homeless families).  Numerous other church related activities. 

Member of On-site teams and also, Team Leader for Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Personal Information

Family oriented with a commitment to a teenage daughter and her other parent.

Love to travel and have visited all 50 states of the United States, Australia 4 times, New Zealand 3 times, England, Costa Rica, Ireland, many parts of Canada, Mexico, France, Ethiopia and Zambia both in Africa.  Hope to travel to the Galapogas Islands in near future.  Also, want to travel to Scotland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, and south Africia on a photo safari. 

Also, want to visit all the United States national parks before I leave this earth!  These parks are such a treasure for the people of this country.
