Trumpet, Brass Quintet, Music Theory
Wayne Bennett holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Georgia (Athens), as well as the Master of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Trumpet Performance from the The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he also taught trumpet and music theory. His teachers include Edward Bach and the late Fred Mills.
Dr. Bennett currently teaches trumpet at Elon University and Guilford College, and teaches courses in Music Appreciation and History at James Sprunt Community College, Randolph Community College, and Surry Community College. Bennett previously taught at the Music Academy of North Carolina, where he was also the Artistic Director of the annual Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion Festival. He has taught marching bands, led brass sectionals, and presented clinics for middle schools and high school throughout Georgia and North Carolina. Bennett has performed in concert venues in Colorado, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina with ensembles including Market Street Brass, The Georgia Brass, The Classic City Opera, the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, the Hickory Choral Society, the Greensboro Opera Company, the Fibonacci Chamber Orchestra, and the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. He was semi-finalist in the Masters Solo Division of the National Trumpet Competition in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.
