This series includes post-Civil War Coble family letters that were mainly written between two groups of the Coble family in Alamance County, North Carolina and relatives who moved to Clay County, Missouri. John Fogleman Coble (1833-1914) and Emsley Franklin Coble (1938-1918), unmarried sons of Martin (John) and Dorothy Coble, relocated to Missouri from North Carolina in search for a better life and decided to not stay on their parents farm in Alamance County, North Carolina. These letters were primarily from Augustus Lucian (1843-1928) and Henry M. Coble (b.1840), the brothers of John Fogleman and Emsley Franklin Coble. Augustus and Henry wrote about the latest news of the day, from the selling of land to the price of commodities such as corn, wheat, pigs, etc. They also wrote to each other about neighborhood festivities including meetings and weddings. John Fogleman and Emsley Franklin, both carpenters, wrote about various projects they were working on, and asked a number of questions about the family in North Carolina and often requested other family members to move to Missouri. There are a few letters that mention Ku Klux Klan activities in North Carolina and Missouri along with some racial activity, but the letters primarily document the families keeping in touch with one another.

The majority of the letters represented in the Albright series are written to Mary C. Albright in Greensboro, North Carolina from her brother Jacob and sister-in-law Ann from Lawson Station, Bay County, Missouri. Mary (1866-1917), daughter of Joel Albright and Sarah Cole was born in Clay County, Missouri and moved to North Carolina in the late 1870s to obtain work. Her sister-in-law did most of the writing, but the salutation was always recorded as Jacob and Ann. Most of their correspondence was of a social nature, as well as discussions about the weather and the health of family members living near Jacob and Ann. Every letter written to Mary from Ann includes a statement urging her to move back to Missouri and be with family.

Of historical note is the fact that Sarah Jane Cole, Mary's mother, was a first cousin to Jesse and Frank James. Sarah Jane and her husband Joel always lived in Clay County, Missouri, the birthplace of Jesse and Frank James.

The Stigers series includes a chapter titled "Saga of Jesse James" by Carl W. Breihan, a letter from William Stigers to Carl Breihan in 1950, and genealogies of Lewis S. and Orren B. Stigers. When Ralph Ganis purchased the original letters of Carl Breihan in order to help with his research for the book , Ganis decided to include these documents when he donated the collection to Elon University.
