Mark Cryan, assistant professor in Elon University’s Department of Sport & Event Management, participated in a book signing March 14 for the release of the second edition of his book, “Cradle of the Game: Baseball and Ballparks in North Carolina.” The event was held at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Burlington’s Alamance Crossing shopping plaza.

Originally published in 2008, Cryan’s book is a city-by-city history and travel guide to baseball in the state of North Carolina. Minor league, college and summer collegiate baseball are highlighted, and the publication includes interviews with North Carolina baseball notables like Jack McKeon and Miles Wolff. The book was published by August Publications.

For more than 20 years, Cryan worked in professional sports, amateur sports, recreation and public relations. Before arriving at Elon University in 2007 as an adjunct professor, he spent four years as the general manager of the Cleveland Indians affiliate in Burlington and five years as athletic director for the Burlington Recreation & Parks Department. In 2012, he joined Elon’s faculty full time.
