Consumer business news site WalletHub recently turned to Elon Professor Mark Cryan for insights into the business of baseball for a feature piece on the 2016 World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs.

The site asked Cryan, an assistant professor of sport and event management, about the current health of the business of baseball, and what the future holds for what's often touted as America's favorite pastime.

Asked if baseball can still claim the title of America's favorite sport, Cryan responded, "Football has certainly eclipsed baseball in terms of television ratings and basketball seems to be on a continuous upward climb, both in the U.S. and internationally. The fact that soccer is in the conversation as a viable pro sport in the U.S. is remarkable in many ways. Despite all this, baseball still draws more fans total, by far, than any other sport in this country, due to the simple fact that they put fans in the stadium every day. ... Yes, baseball is still our national pastime."
