Elon to honor Louis DeJoy for entrepreneurial leadership

The former CEO of New Breed Logistics will be presented with the Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership on March 1 at 5 p.m. in the LaRose Digital Theatre.

Louis DeJoy, president of LDJ Global Strategies, LLC, will be honored on March 1 with the Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership. 

Louis DeJoy will receive the Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership on March 1, 2017.

The presentation takes place at 5 p.m. in the LaRose Digital Theatre in the Ernest A. Koury, Sr. Business Center. A reception will follow. Sponsored by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, the program is free and open to the public.

The Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership recognizes an entrepreneur who is a leader in his or her industry and who exemplifies the values of Elon University, including integrity, innovation and creativity, passion for lifelong learning, and a commitment to building a dynamic community.

Prior to founding LDJ Global Strategies, DeJoy was the chief executive officer of XPO Logistics' supply chain business in the Americas. He previously led New Breed Logistics as its chairman and chief executive officer from 1983 until XPO acquired New Breed in 2014. During that time, he grew the company from a small, regional operation to a leading U.S. provider of highly engineered, technology-driven contract logistics solutions employing more than 10,000 people nationally. He was appointed to XPO’s Board of Directors after retiring from the company in December 2015.

DeJoy is a member of the board of trustees of Elon University, the board of trustees for the PGA's Wyndham Championship and the board of directors for The Fund for American Studies in Washington, D.C. He is a past member of the board of trustees for Cone Health in North Carolina, and held a presidential appointment as a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.

DeJoy received his bachelor of business administration with a major in accounting from Stetson University, and went on to become a certified public accountant in Florida. He resides in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his wife, Dr. Aldona Wos, and their children, Ania and Andrew. Wos served as secretary of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services from 2013 to 2015. From 2004 to 2006 she served as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Estonia.
