Live from Elon! Headlines start flowing on news ticker
The Town of Elon recently granted the university's request to activate the scrolling news ticker on the south end of McEwen Communications Building, facing Citrone Plaza on Williamson Avenue.
Elon University formally activated the news ticker on the façade of McEwen Communications Building during a March 15 broadcast of "ELN Morning,” a live telecast produced by the student-run Elon News Network.
Headlines provided by Reuters news agency began flowing when School of Communications Dean Paul Parsons and Elon’s Chief Information Officer Christopher Waters symbolically pushed a large green button, to the applause of technology staff members and communications faculty members in attendance.
The news ticker faces Citrone Plaza where students enter the Snow Family Grand Atrium from downtown. The ticker wraps above the windows of the Jane and Brian Williams television studio.
“We want our students and the community to be informed about what is going on in their world as it happens,” Parsons said. “This way, students can catch the latest headlines as they head into classes and when they go across the street to eat or shop.”
On March 13, the Town of Elon's Board of Aldermen granted the university's request to start operating the news ticker.
