Impressive outcomes: The Class of 2018

New data from Elon's Student Professional Development Center documents the success of last year's graduating class.

Elon’s annual First Destination survey shows impressive outcomes for the Class of 2018 nine months after graduation.

‚ÄčThe data was compiled by Elon’s Student Professional Development Center and includes information from 95 percent of the graduating class.

  • 94 percent of graduates are either employed, attending graduate school, completing post-graduate internships or fellowships, or working for a service organization
  • 90 percent of the class was employed nine months after graduation and 95 percent of those said their positions were related to their career objectives
  • 19 percent of the class had been accepted to graduate or professional school programs
  • The average salary of the Class of 2018 was $45,000, a $2,008 increase from the previous year’s average salary.

“The First Destination results for the Class of 2018 are once again very strong,” said Tom Brinkley, executive director of the Student Professional Development Center. “Our outcomes reflect the continued growth in the job market for exceptional college talent, and our graduates are in demand by employers and graduate schools throughout the country. Our top three destinations for employment continue to be New York City, Boston, and Washington, DC. Only about 2 percent of our Class of 2018 graduates said that they are still on the job market, which is a remarkable statistic for any college or university.

Graduates reported networking leads through the following:

  • 67 percent acquired leads directly through an internship
  • 50 percent received one or more career leads from parents and family
  • 36 percent reported career leads from Elon alumni

This month, Elon was recognized by the career services website Zippia for a second straight year as No. 1 in North Carolina for the employment of its alumni 10 years after they first enrolled.
