DPTE hosts 120 physical therapists for continuing education course
Elon’s Department of Physical Therapy Education hosted a complimentary 2-day continuing education course on Dec. 5 –6 for more than 120 North Carolina physical therapists.
Attendees included Elon physical therapy alumni, clinical instructors, as well as the DPT class of 2011. The course, “Improving Recovery of Walking for Patients with Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury,” was presented by Pamela Duncan, Ph.D, FAPTA, FAHA, and Mark Bowden Ph.D, PT. The focus of the course was applying research evidence to clinical practice in the area of walking recovery.
Dr. Duncan, an internationally renowned physical therapist and epidemiologist is a professor in the Department of Neurology and Transitional Outcomes at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Duncan was the primary investigator of the Locomotor Experience Applied Post (LEAPs) research trial recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr. Bowden is a research health scientist at the VA Medical Center in Charleston, S.C. and assistant professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Research at the Medical University of South Carolina. His research emphasis is on walking recovery after neurological injury with experience in both outcome measurement and treatment interventions.
