Amy M. Johnson presents at Southern Historical Association annual conference

Assistant Professor Amy M. Johnson presented new research at the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association's annual conference in Mobile, Ala., from Nov. 1-4.

Johnson's paper, "Slavery, Freedom, and Memories of Slaveholding among the Maroons of Jamaica," uses memory, identity, and historical context to draw conclusions about the experiences of slaves in these autonomous and non-literate communities in the Jamaican interior.

The research was funded by a Hultquist stipend and FR&D.
