A music video conceptualized, directed and produced this spring by Elon University students is now included in the International Music Video Database.

The team from the student-run recording label Limelight Records worked on the video for the song "New Brunswick" by recent Elon graduate Brandon Williams '14, whose stage name is Kid Cas.

Released in early May, the video was directed by Matt Carter '14, a cinema and digital art double major. Limelight Records was led this year by Dean Shapero '15 and advised by Professor Barth Strempek in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.

According to the Facebook page for Kid Cas, Williams was born in on Halloween 1992, which inspired  the nickname Kid Casper (Kid Cas). He began pursuing musical aspirations at 13 with inspiration from artists like Eminem and Jay Z. Williams graduated in May with a degree in strategic communications.

After a 2013 summer internship in New York City, Carter approached Williams about the idea of a music video. The two students teamed with Michael Tahan '14, a media arts and entertainment major, who helped film the video in Studio B of McEwen builing. Tahan and Assistant Professor Youssef Osman in the School of Communications also assisted Carter in animating and editing the production.

"Brandon and I hope that the piece leads to opportunities for both of us as we move forward in our careers with music and film," Carter said. "Considering we’ve received positive feedback from two very well accomplished music video director duos based out of New York City, we’re on track – so far, so good."
