Want to learn more about the new faces you've seen around campus? We asked three new employees to tell us a little about themselves. | |
Bea Sanford, director of planned givingBea joins the institutional advancement staff after living in Naples, Fla., for the last 16 years, where she worked with NationsBank Trust and Merrill Lynch helping clients plan their estates. She and her husband of 22 years, David, are excited to be in North Carolina. "We are looking forward to experiencing our first spring season in 16 years," Bea says. "I hear spring is glorious in North Carolina." Bea may hold an Elon record with 14 siblings, split evenly with seven brothers and seven sisters! "My parents are still alive and healthy, traveling the countryside in their RV," she says. Outdoor activities are a favorite for Bea, but only "when the temperature is over 50 degrees. You won't see me making snow angels!" She enjoys training with free weights in the gym three days a week, and counts classical, country, oldies and classic rock among her favorite types of music. Bea earned her bachelor's degree in a non-traditional setting, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Regents College in Albany, N.Y., in 1999. "It took me 12 years to get my degree, taking courses in the evenings and weekends," she says. |

Brian Silotto, director of annual givingBrian brings nearly eight years of experience in the advancement field to his position at Elon. He says he's impressed with Elon and the opportunities here. "This is such a beautiful campus, and there is so much to do in the surrounding area," he says. He enjoys the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and golf. Brian also collects antique golf equipment. He also enjoys 50's and 60's music, especially Elvis Presley music and memorabilia. An Illinois native, Brian comes to Elon after five years at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., where he was director of the university's annual fund. He also worked as a development officer for three years at his alma mater, Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. He and his wife, Jodi, live in Gibsonville. Because he went to a school similar to Elon, Brian says he enjoys talking to alumni and hearing their stories. "When I talk to them and they tell me stories from their college days, it reminds me of where I came from. I think that's what I enjoy the most about this job," he says. |

| Elizabeth Barr, assistant director of annual giving Elizabeth feels at home in Holland House. As an undergraduate, she was a student worker with the institutional advancement staff for four years, and she's excited to be back there as a full-time staff member. "It's great to be here," she says. "Rather than having to pay to come to Elon, they're paying me!" In her first full-time job after college, Elizabeth will be responsible for the phone-a-thon and all direct mailings from institutional advancement. The Baltimore, Md., native earned her degree from Elon last May in human services, with a minor in criminal justice. She says her comfort level with the advancement staff played a key role in her decision to come to work here. "Frances McKenzie was just great to me the whole time I worked here, and (former assistant director) Susan Cameron acquainted me with the phone-a-thon," she says. In her free time, Elizabeth helps coach an AAU basketball team of 14-year-old boys in Chapel Hill. |
