Steve Anderson, assistant director of residence life, West area
Steve began his duties Feb. 14 and says he is enjoying Elon and North
Carolina. "Everyone here has been very friendly, and the campus
is beautiful," he says. Plus, Steve says the weather here is
much better than Iowa, where he worked at Simpson College as an area
coordinator.
With his office in Sloan residence hall, Steve is responsible for
coordinating residence life activities and programs in West, Virginia
and Sloan. He's excited about the challenge and opportunity his new
position offers. "There are a lot of resources to draw from here
at Elon, and the students have been great to work with," he says.
Steve learned of the job opening at Elon on the Web, but that was
not his first contact with Elon. "I met Smith Jackson and John
Barnhill at a conference, and I learned a great deal about Elon from
them. So when I saw Elon had an opening, I was immediately interested."
Although he was born in Decatur, Ill., Steve grew up in Ohio and earned
a bachelor's degree from Kent State University. He had a good time
watching Kent State's basketball team pull several upsets in the recent
NCAA men's basketball tournament! Steve earned his master's degree
from the University of Akron.
Steve enjoys reading in his spare time. He just finished Lance Armstrong's
"It's Not About the Bike," and he reads books by Warren
Buffet. His hobbies include playing sports, traveling and writing,
and he's learning to play the guitar. Steve has a basset hound named
Bosley, but for now, Bosley is staying with Steve's mom. |
