Andy Angyal, professor of English, wrote an article that appeared in the March/April 2001 edition of Stewardship News. The article profiles Windy Knoll Farm in Guilford County, which Andy and his wife, Jennifer, purchased in 1996. Angyal describes the hard work and long hours required to make Windy Knoll a self-sufficient, six-acre homestead, where he and Jennifer grow most of their fruits and vegetables organically. The article is accompanied by two photographs of Angyal working with students from Elon's environmental studies program.

Bruce Brown, director of development research, made a presentation on genealogical research to the Carolinas Association of Researchers for Advancement in Durham on April 27. He discussed the various uses for genealogical research, along with accepted research practices. He also gave a presentation about prospect qualification and prospect management to the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement - Arkansas in Little Rock on May 11.
Clyde Ellis, associate professor of history, will speak at the 24th annual Plains Indian Seminar at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyo., Sept. 27-29. The seminar, which brings together noted scholars and lecturers to examine Native American education, will feature Ellis and 14 other scholars. Ellis will present work from his first book, "To Change Them Forever: Indian Education at the Rainy Mountain Boarding School, 1893-1920." The book won the 1997 Gustavus Myers Prize for outstanding work on racial intolerance in North America.

Tom Erdmann, associate professor of music, had two articles published recently. His cover article on Allen Vizzutti was published in the June/July issue of Jazz Player magazine. Another article, titled "Jack of All Trades, Master of All: An Interview with Lew Soloff," was published in the June issue of the International Trumpet Guild Journal.

Vickie Somers, director of purchasing, moderated a roundtable discussion about Datatel software at the National Association of Educational Buyers annual meeting and product exhibit in Nashville, Tenn., May 2-5. NAEB is the professional association for purchasing professionals at colleges and universities.
