Janna Anderson, director of Internet projects for the School of Communications, is quoted in the January/February issue of Quill magazine, the publication of the Society of Professional Journalists. The article details the decline of internship opportunities at newspapers. It mentions Anderson's work with the Burlington Times-News, which gives Elon journalism students the opportunity to write articles for the paper.

  Larry Basirico, professor of sociology, was included in an article about family reunions in the March edition of Reader’s Digest magazine. In the article, titled "Reunion Fever," Basirico says reunions help people connect with their original sense of who they are.

Basirico has done extensive research on family reunions, written for Reunions magazine and been quoted in newspaper articles in The Arizona Republic, The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal.

  Clyde Ellis, associate professor of history, has co-authored his fourth book since 1994. "The Jesus Road: Kiowas, Christianity and Indian Hymns," examines Christian faith practices among Oklahoma Kiowas. Ellis co-authored the book, which includes a CD containing 26 hymns, with Luke Eric Lassiter and Ralph Kotay. Published by the University of Nebraska Press, the book shows how Christian members of the Kiowa community have embraced a variety of hymns and made them their own. Ellis' portion of the book examines how many Kiowas became Christian during the previous century. Clyde Ellis
  News Bureau Director David Hibbard (pictured at right), Director of University Relations Dan Anderson, and Director of Reunion Giving Emily Goetz attended the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education meeting Feb. 3-6 in Atlanta. Elon's publications program, Web site and marketing efforts received seven awards at the meeting, including three awards of excellence. CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications and development.

  Julie Lage, assistant director of financial planning, and six Elon students attended the 2002 Collegiate Fitness Expo Feb. 16 at Georgia State University in Atlanta. The session included speakers, classroom presentations and a variety of aerobics classes. The students who took part were Erica Choutka, Leslie Crowe, Evyn Fuller-Smith, Julianna Parker, Lauren Newton and Marisa Triman. Other schools represented at the expo included UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, the University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University.

  Sharon Spray, assistant professor of political science, recently published "Climate Change," the first in a series of books. Spray and Karen McGlothlin, a biologist at the University of the South, are co-editing the series, titled "Exploring Environmental Challenges: A Multidisciplinary Approach." The series, published by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers, Inc., is specifically designed for the interdisciplinary approach to teaching. Each book in the series will focus on environmental issues, balanced with contributions from the natural sciences, as well as scholars in the humanities or social sciences. Sharon Spray
  John Sullivan, Maude Sharpe Powell Professor of Philosophy, spoke during an intercultural convocation Feb. 20 at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. Sullivan's address, titled "Four Tribes -- One Mountain: An Invitation to Inter-Religious Dialogue," was part of a convocation to launch Presbyterian's new Southeastern Center for Intercultural Studies. The center's director will be Presbyterian College Chaplain Greg Henley, a 1974 Elon graduate and former student of Sullivan's. John Sullivan
