Bill Adams Photo Bill Adams, assistant professor of performing arts

Bill says there were many reasons for leaving Oklahoma Panhandle State University to come to Elon, but most important were "the stellar performing arts program, the breathtaking campus and the outstanding people."

Bill earned his bachelor's degree from California State University at San Bernardino and a doctorate from the University of Texas. He enjoys a cappella choral music, opera, symphonies, jazz and blues, and his talents as a baritone earned him a spot in a recent concert at Duke Chapel to benefit victims of the terrorist attacks.

Bill and his wife, Nicole, have a 2-year-old son, Michael. Bill says he enjoys spending time with Michael, "just watching football, swimming or playing in the park together." A native of Alta Loma, Calif., Bill has research interests in British vocal music and music education pedagogies. He also enjoys golf and genealogy.

Theresa Beckett Photo Theresa Beckett, media services production specialist

Theresa is new to her job in media services, but she certainly isn't new to Elon. A native of Annapolis, Md., Theresa earned her degree in corporate communications with a business administration minor in May.

It's no surprise that Theresa, who played for the women's soccer team, decided to stay at Elon. Her father, James, played football here and graduated from Elon in 1972. And her younger sister, Angela, is a sophomore here and also plays soccer for the Phoenix. "I'm a legacy, I loved the campus and I couldn't let go," Theresa says.

During her spare time, Theresa likes to have fun with her dog, Winston, and collects anything with the Disney character Tigger on it. She also has a love for interior design, which came in handy at her previous job with Pier 1 Imports.

Jimmy Curiazza, HVAC mechanic

Jimmy comes to Elon after working with General Dynamics, and he says Elon's perfect location and pristine campus attracted him here.

Originally from Bayonne, N.J., Jimmy attended Apex Technical College in New York City, as well as New York University. He is a member of the North Carolina Contractors Association, and says he likes the mechanical and technical aspects of his job. He enjoys classical music, lists the piano as one of his hobbies and is a member of the Greensboro Opera Company. He also enjoys computer automation and working on repairs around the house.

Jimmy and his wife, Tracy, have a 4-year-old daughter, Francesca. The family pets include a beagle, a turtle and a fish. To get away from it all, Jimmy enjoys trips to the mountains and the beach, as well as spending time with family.
Arthur Fadde, director of graduate admissions

Arthur joins the graduate admissions staff after working at nearby High Point University, where he served as assistant dean of admissions. A native of Toms River, N.J., he earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Arthur says Elon is recognized for its quality and students. "Elon's growing reputation as a leader in student-centered higher education is just one of the things that attracted me here," he says.

When he's not at the office, Arthur enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelley, and their 2-year-old son, Jackson. He likes going to movies and "attempting to play golf" in his spare time. He also enjoys a variety of music, including jazz, modern rock and '80s hits.
Richard Gang Photo Richard Gang, assistant professor of theatre arts

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Richard has worked as both an educator and a professional actor during his career. He has performed in off-Broadway productions of "The Fantasticks" and "Perfect Crime," in addition to teaching at Rutgers University, Rider University and Westminster Choir College.

An avid bodybuilder, Richard says he "lifts incredible amounts of weight for fun!" He balances his intense workouts by tending to his garden and keeping an eye on Cinder, Ella, Goldie and Lambie, his four "not-so-blind mice."

Richard earned a bachelor's degree from New York University and master's degrees from Emerson College and Rutgers University. He is a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers of America and has research interests in phonetics, dialects, method acting and energy work.

Richard has a daughter, Rebecca, who is 24.

Irene Gibson PhotoIrene Gibson, technical services requisition clerk

After working as a temporary employee at Elon for two years, Irene is excited to have a full-time position here. "I have found my permanent home in the library," she says of her position as the technical services requisition clerk. "I am proud to be a part of Elon University."

Previously, Irene worked at Lucent Technologies. For two years, she learned about Elon through experience, working in temporary positions in human resources, admissions and the library.

Irene and her husband, William, have a grown daughter, Anita. Irene says she loves to travel and read, and she just finished reading Jerry Bledsoe's "Death Sentence."
Maureen Ihrie, associate professor of Spanish

Maureen joins Elon after 11 years at Kansas State University. She is impressed with Elon's commitment to its students. "There is a high value placed on teaching and students here," she says, adding that those priorities were a factor in her decision to come to Elon.

Originally from Seattle, Wash., Maureen earned her bachelor's degree and a doctorate from Bryn Mawr College. She is a member of the Cervantes Society and several other professional organizations, and she has a particular interest in medieval and Golden Age peninsular Spanish prose.

Maureen stays busy at home by working in the garden and cooking. She also enjoys reading, adding that she is "addicted to mystery, detective and police novels." She and her husband, Bob, and their two daughters, Rebecca, 22, and Megan, 18, also enjoy the company of a "cranky, 16-year-old cat."
Helen Kreuzer Photo Helen Kreuzer, assistant professor of biology

Helen brings a love of teaching to the classroom, which she says was a major influence in her decision to join the Elon faculty. "Elon has a reputation as a teaching institution," she says. “I love teaching, and I’ve spent many years working with science teachers and students.”

Helen didn't have to alter her daily commute very much to come to Elon; previously, she worked for Carolina Biological Supply Company in Burlington. She earned a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from the University of Alabama, and a doctorate in microbiology and genetics from Duke University. Among her research interests are the spread of antibiotic resistance and DNA replication and recombination.

A basset hound named Rosie and two dachshunds, Daisy and Pete, keep Helen busy at home. She also enjoys carpentry, home improvement, backpacking, kayaking and running.
Paul Parsons Photo Paul Parsons, dean of the School of Communications

Spending a year in Beijing, China, sparked Paul's interest in doing comparative studies of U.S. and Chinese media. In 1992-93, Paul and his wife, Mary Helen, immersed themselves in Chinese culture, along with their children, John David, 17, and Catherine, 14. This was during Paul's appointment as a Fulbright professor at the China School of Journalism.

Paul comes to Elon after 16 years at Kansas State University, where he was a professor and journalism head in the Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He says he was attracted to Elon by the university's global perspective and emphasis on teaching.

Before embarking on his teaching career, Paul spent 10 years covering Arkansas politics for United Press International and the Associated Press. In his free time, Paul enjoys playing golf and the piano, going to the movies and looking at Web site construction.
Norm Schroth, assistant director of Greek life

Norm says he was attracted to Elon by the family atmosphere of the student life office. He has been involved with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity since he was a student at SUNY Fredonia, so he says he feels comfortable working with Elon's 18 fraternities and sororities. He worked previously as a regional director for Sigma Phi Epsilon.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Norm has master's degrees from Ohio University (athletic administration) and Slippery Rock University (student personnel). In his spare time, Norm enjoys exercising, "schmoozing," visiting with old friends, watching movies and reading. He recently read "The Catcher in the Rye," which he calls a timeless classic.
Jill Stohs PhotoJill Stohs, director of leadership and organization development

Jill brings a commitment to leadership and a master's degree in leadership education to her new position at Elon. Jill earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska, where she also worked before moving to North Carolina with her husband, Brett.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Neb., Jill says she came to Elon "because of the strong student focus, the wonderful people, the energy of the campus and its beauty." She has a keen interest in leadership and the role that personality and motivation play in developing future leaders.

Jill enjoys the chance to spend time with her friends and family, as well as cooking, baking, playing the piano and reading. She recently finished reading "Leadership Without Easy Answers" by Ronald Heifetz.

Jill has been skydiving twice. She enjoys many different types of music, including new age, Celtic, classical, jazz and some pop.
Hardy White, environmental services manager

The green lawns and blooming flowers at Elon caught Hardy's eye when he first came to campus. He says he was attracted to Elon by "the great people who work in environmental services as well as the beautiful facilities and grounds." And one of his most gratifying moments was "becoming a part of Elon's great tradition."

When he's not busy keeping Elon beautiful, Hardy spends time with his family. He and his wife, Brenda, have three sons, Eldred, Elden and Jermaine, and a daughter, Courtney. Hardy is a member of the International Executive Housekeeping Association and the Men's Fellowship. He likes Gospel music and watching TV.
