Reports to Stakeholders

The development of systematic meaningful assurance of learning with fully developed learning goals and assessments is a multi-year project. Following our successful initial accreditation in the spring of 2004, we embarked on the following transition sequence for implementing a new assurance of learning process:

  • 2003-04. Development began on conceptual and operational definitions of learning goals for each degree program. Most of this activity occurred following the accreditation visit in the spring of 2004.
  • 2004-05. Development of conceptual (learning goals) and operational (learning objectives) definitions of learning outcomes. Faculty-led development of outcomes using faculty, student, stakeholder (including the LSB Board of Advisors) input and an iterative process of development and revision. A test group of goals/objectives was created and used in a trial assessment cycle in the spring of 2005. The assurance of learning process was revised over the summer (2005) and a new set of goals/objectives was prepared for stakeholder review.
  • 2005-06. The revised set of program goals/objectives was reviewed by stakeholder groups, to include subject matter experts from the School of Education (Dr. Deborah Long), Institutional Research (Robert Springer, Director) and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL, Dr. Peter Felten, Director). The Business Core Goals and Objectives were approved (fall 2005) and an assessment matrix and assessment rubrics were developed. BUS 465 instructors met in a working group to create and execute a capstone assessment (direct demonstration) in BUS 465 during Assessment Day (spring 2006). Spring 2006 will be the first test of the assurance of learning tools/processes for the Business Core, Accounting and Economics programs. Assessment results will be fed back to faculty and stakeholders in the fall of 2006. An online, secure data capturing system will be available for faculty to input assessment data (spring 2006).
  • 2006-2008. Assessment cycle will be repeated (and revised, as necessary). Data will be available for program review and revision. The appropriate reports will be generated.
