Mary Gowan is a professor of management and the former dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. She joined Elon in July 2007 from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she was the associate dean for undergraduate programs and associate professor of human resources management in the School of Business. During her tenure as dean for the Love School of Business, the school achieved reaccreditation by AACSB-International, completed a revisioning and strategic planning process, doubled its endowment, added new faculty and staff lines, and achieved two important national rankings: Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the part-time MBA program #1 in the South and #6 in the nation, and ranked the undergraduate business program #26 for academic quality and #60 overall.
In addition to Elon and GW, she has been on the faculty of the University of Central Florida, UNC Charlotte, UT El Paso and Mercer University. She has been a visiting professor at the University of Maryland and the Helsinki School of Economics and Business with appointments in Finland and South Korea. She teaches leadership, organizational behavior, and human resource management courses. Gowan has extensive consulting and executive education experience with private and public organizations in the areas of leadership, human resources.
Gowan holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, with a major in Human Resource Management.
