description

The Martha & Spencer Love School of Business will host The Power of Angel Investing, a seminar being presented by the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) in cooperation with the Kauffman Foundation.  The seminar will be held in the Moseley Center on November 30, 2005.

The Power of Angel Investing is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of angel investing for accredited investors with or without angel investment experience. The seminar is offered in a "protected environment" without solicitations from service providers and entrepreneurs looking for angel financing. In order to provide adequate opportunities for interacting with the experts and other participants, registration will be limited to 25 individuals.

What subjects are covered?

  • Finding angel opportunities that are right for you
  • Investment goals and portfolio strategies
  • Local deal sourcing
  • Due diligence
  • Structuring the deal
  • Valuing start-up companies
  • Monitoring angel investments
  • The post-investment relationships between angels and start-up companies
  • What to do when things go wrong
  • Angels as advisors - bringing more than money to investments

Who should attend?

  • Successful entrepreneurs who have exited their businesses and have interest in staying involved in early stage companies.
  • High net-worth individuals with senior business experience who now have the time and interest in investing in early stage companies.
  • Investors who are interested in learning more about the specifics of angel investing.

Faculty
Horace Stimson will serve as lead faculty for the seminar. Stimson has over 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur and private equity investor working with over 100 companies in more than a dozen industries. His company provided venture resources to businesses he started, turned around or developed as an active owner, operator, investor, director, or advisor and now manages his portfolio.

Joining Mr. Stimson is a "who's who" of private equity investing expertise and experience, including seasoned angel investors, angel-financed serial entrepreneurs, VC and angel group members, and tax and legal specialists.
