Elon Business Fellows engage in a comprehensive four-year career development process which includes:
Students complete a personality based assessment that helps them determine what their skills, interests and values are in relation to their perspective or chosen major. They have the opportunity to discuss this assessment in a small group setting, not only learning from a career advisor but from their fellow students. In their first year, they are also introduced to Elon’s on campus job and internship database (Elon Job Network) and LinkedIn.
Students attend LSB Sophomore Success, an engaged learning program focused on jump-starting sophomore students in their career development. During LSB Sophomore Success students will have the opportunity to practice their networking skills, have their resume reviewed and engage in a mock interview with professional recruiters. During their second year, students also polish their resume in preparation for the internship application process.
A student’s third year is focused on researching, choosing, applying to and securing an internship. Students within the Love School of Business engage in internships with everything from Fortune 500 companies to fledgling start-ups, and in doing so gain the valuable hands-on experience that they’ll need to prepare for embarking into the workforce. In addition, during their 3rd or 4th year, fellows represent the university at company visits in New York or San Francisco. Fellows network with executives and alumni, acquire knowledge about specific industries and employers, and learn about competitive internship and job opportunities. Past company visits have included meetings at Google, Time Inc., Bloomberg, Iconix, Morgan Stanley, Blackrock and the New York Stock Exchange.
Students revise and finalize the resume that they’ll utilize to apply to full-time jobs, hone their interview skills and navigate offer negotiations. During this time they frequently meet with their career advisor for one-on-one sessions to determine and work to secure their chosen career path after graduation.
