Do you know WHAT you want to study abroad, but not WHERE?

Winter Term Study Abroad WAIT LIST INFORMATION

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
ON A STUDY ABROAD WAIT LIST

1. Normally there is about a 25% change of participants in the courses between now and September 15. As soon as a space becomes available for you, we notify you by mail or e-mail.

2. You have the option to remain on the wait list into the fall and see if you move up to the “Go” list. Or, you may decide there is a course open now which is your second choice. You may request one change in courses. You do not have to submit another application or write another essay.

3. If you decide to change, it will take a few days to process your request. You will be notified by mail.

4. Lisa Alcon will be able to tell you whether you are in the top, middle or bottom of the wait list. She will not be able to tell you the exact spot where you are.

5. From now until the end of the term, the wait lists will be somewhat fluid because some students will decide to change to an open course, others will cancel. In addition, the study abroad staff is doing all it can to accommodate as many students as possible.

6. So how were the selections made? There were many factors.

  • Some students did not have the required GPA and were eliminated.
  • Before we mailed out the acceptance cards, there were several cancellations.
  • Upper class persons who had not studied abroad were given some preference.
  • Students who wrote particularly convincing essays made a strong case to be included.
  • Majors or minors in a subject related to the course constituted another preference factor.
  • Finally, it came down to the fact that in some courses there were just so many applications for a few spots.
