Semester Study Abroad Programs Online Application and Information

Application Deadlines

 (please read the deadline information carefully)


- We are currently accepting applications on a space available basis for the spring semester 2009:  Elon Centre Abroad semester programs in the following locations,

San Jose, Costa Rica: Elon in Costa Rica
Florence, Italy: Elon in Florence
London, England: Elon in London

The application deadline has past but we will continue to accept applications as long as space is available in the programs.

- The application deadline for the spring semester 2009 program at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan is
August 1, 2008.

- The application deadline for the spring semester 2009 program in Perugia, Italy is September 8, 2008.

Applications all the other other Spring 2009 semester Programs is September 22.

ONLINE Application Instructions

Before completing this application BE SURE you have read the complete program descriptions on the ICCIS information Sheets found on the ICCIS semester by location website.

Online Application
By submitting this online application you begin a process that will be one of the most rewarding experiences you will have during your time at Elon University. In order to make the process as efficient as possible, you are asked to read the instructions below, complete and submit all parts listed below for a complete application. Your ability to submit the required parts on time and with accurate information will assist us in determining your eligibility for a study abroad program. Your application will not be reviewed until all appropriate parts are submitted. You may only submit an application for one program.

A complete online application consists of the following:
  • Online application and Essay (to see the semester application essay prompt click here)
  • Academic Advisor reference form and Faculty member reference form - You will request this references as part of the online application and your Academic Advisor and selected faculty member will submit these forms to ICCIS via email. *NOTE: If you are applying for a program that has a foreign language prerequisite, the faculty reference form must be completed by a foreign language faculty member. Remember: AS A COURTESY YOU MUST CONTACT YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR AND CHOSEN FACULTY MEMBER TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE RECEIVING AN EMAIL TO SUBMIT A REFERENCE FOR YOUR STUDY ABROAD APPLICATION. THE FACULTY MEMBER OR ADVISOR MAY REQUIRE THAT YOU MEET WITH THEM BEFORE THEY COMPLETE THE REFERENCE FORM.
Eligibility
A minimum GPA is required for each program. Most programs require sophomore, junior or senior standing; however, some require junior or senior standing. Please make sure you meet ALL the requirements for the program to which you are applying.

Scholarships/Travel Grants
Applications for the various Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies (ICCIS) need-and merit-based scholarships are available online and in the ICCIS (Carlton 113). Please check the website for the scholarship application deadlines. If you qualify for a travel grant through any of the fellows or scholars programs see the appropriate program director for the travel grant agreement form so a travel grant may be applied to your study abroad program.

Passport
If you do not have a passport, you need to apply IMMEDIATELY. If you currently have a passport, make sure it is valid for at least 6 months AFTER the END of your semester abroad. For example, if your program ends in May, your passport must be valid until the end of November of that year. Most semester programs require some type of visa, and you must have your passport to apply for that visa. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure you obtain your passport with sufficient time to get your visa or other travel documents. Information for securing a passport is available from the US Department of State Website.

Notification/Communication
You will be notified by email of your application status approximately two weeks after the application deadline (provided your application is complete). For Affiliate and Exchange Programs, initial approval is granted by Elon but FINAL acceptance is dependent upon the Affiliate Program or Exchange Partner. Other paperwork may be required for this final approval process. Further information, including other paperwork will be sent by email. Please make sure to respond to all communication as necessary in a timely manner. A schedule of mandatory orientation sessions on the website of the semester application information. Note: Failure to attend the mandatory orientation sessions may result in your termination from the program and forfeiture of any money you have already paid.

Deposits
A $500 deposit is required for the application to be processed. By completing the application online, you will be required to pay the deposit by credit card. If you have any concerns over payment options, please contact the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies.

Deposit Refund/Cancellation
The online $500 deposit is refundable for good reason through the first day of pre-registration for the semester in which you are going abroad.  Requests for a deposit refund must be submitted to the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies in writing. The cancellation/refund form is available at the reception desk of the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies. Approved refunds will be processed through the Bursar's office.

If you are not accepted into a program your deposit will automatically be refunded.

No request for refund will be considered after commencement of the program abroad.


Note: Some of the affiliate semester programs require additional deposits and have different refund deadlines and policies.
