Winter Term 2007 Updates

Currently, more than 700 Elon students are studying abroad around the globe with over 50 Elon faculty and staff. The Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies will post course information on this page when we receive updates from faculty leaders on their courses.

This page will also be used in case of any emergency or scheduling change due to weather or other circumstances.

Note: The Winter Term South Africa Study Abroad group maintains their own blog which can be found at: http://idd.elon.edu/sasa. *******************************************

Peru Biology:  We arrived in Lima from Cuzco this morning.  We will be visiting the international potato institute tomorrow.  So far, we have seen 81 species of birds, 4 kinds of monkeys, about 30 different plants (to identify), done labs in the Amazon jungle, gone swimming in a mountain river, played soccer on a river island, and watched macaws come to a morning lake while we sat on a sand bar with the river rushing past.  Yesterday we climbed Machu Pichu and returned to Cuzco.

New Zealand Business:  Today is our last full day in Queenstown and we've had a fantastic time. We were depressed the first evening when we arrived because it was pouring rain, but we awoke the next morning to a gorgeous sunny day in the high 70's. Our group's been having lots of fun with fishing, skydiving and lounging.
This morning we went to the Queenstown Resort College for a tour and short talk. They have just opened and train students to work exclusively in five-star resorts.  Five star, we were told, means exceptional beyond excellence.
The faculty met our Elon students and were very impressed. There are internship opportunities for students in Queenstown during ski season (our summer) and opportunities for a semester abroad study of hospitality management.  I feel very excited about the future opportunities for more students to go to New Zealand.
Tonight is our final banquet and tomorrow we leave Queenstown around 1pm to begin our journey home.  It's been a wonderful three weeks--we've all learned so much and had lots of fun doing it.
